December 14, 2015 Poppies and Pancakes

Eat well-grown food from healthy soil.  Soils rich in organic matter produce more nutritious food:  that is, food with higher levels of antioxidants, flaovonoids, vitamins, and minerals.  Ideally, you want to eat food that is both organic and local.
-Michael Pollan
Dear Friends,
What a lovely couple of ‘storms’ we’ve had the last few days.  The soil is moist, crops are growing, heat waves and talk of drought are absent and a little glowing fire in the fireplace makes all well.  It’s the little things in life that get us through the rocky times.
I firmly believe ‘you are what you eat’.  Nature has her own way of deciding what’s good for us.  This time of year, it’s ‘root’ crops (carrots, potatoes, yams, beets, turnips)..all things that have stored up nutrients to get us through the winter.  And she provided seeds too.  Seeds for replanting (no terminator GMO’s thank you), seeds in pomegranates and seeds for cooking.  So this week, here are some ideas for your Russet potatoes and Seabreeze poppy seeds (can you imagine how many flower pods I personally harvested for these?).
Couple more things…next week will be the holiday schedule..Thursday deliveries will be on Tuesday and Wednesday remains the same.  Also, please consider Seabreeze delivery to your friends or family as a gift.  A delivery of fresh, local Seabreeze wholesome food is fun to receive.  We have a page on Overstock that makes ordering easy and has several selections.
As we’re heading into our holiday season and some of you will be traveling, please remember the farm continues on with it’s cycles of planting and harvesting.  Your continued support of our production is valued and we’ll be here when you come back.  Our local military families benefit from your delivery donations and it helps with securing the farm.
So enjoy your items in good health and happy cooking.
