December 18, 2017 Heads Up

December 18, 2017
The color of springtime is in the flowers; the color of winter is in the imagination.

~Terri Guillemets

Dear Friends,
There’s no ‘getting off’ the merry-go-round in farming, something of course, I hadn’t realized when first picked up the shovel and packets of seeds and declared “I’m going to be a farmer” leaving silk blouses, Farrigamo’s and manicures forever in the dust.  But that’s ok. The trials forged and the rewards of spending a life always amazed at the beauty and intricacies of Mother Nature sustains my gratitude.  Providing good nutritious food directly from my home to homes of our families without a break for thousands of weeks is an amazing feat I must say.  So with that being said, here’s the bad news.
Christmas eve falls on Sunday and Christmas Day on Monday.  Although Christmas and New Year’s week will be on schedule with deliveries, there is no way in the world that Andres, Kendall and I (the only full time workers), at our stages in life, can harvest, prepare, assemble and pack all the ingredients.  Those last Santana winds, although spared us the wildfires, wrecked havoc on some of our crops, especially the flowers.  So there will be no flower bouquets these two weeks.  I know this is part of what you pay for with your CSA share but I promise, when Spring is here again, we’ll double up on flowers (especially when the sweet peas bloom) and more then make up for it!
Please feel free to call or email me if you have questions or need cooking tips.
May our food this week nourish, comfort and sustain you.
