The more we pour the big machines, the fuel, the pesticides, the herbicides, the fertilizer and chemicals into farming, the more we knock out the mechanism that made it all work in the first place.

Dear Friends,
Whew ee!  What a week it’s been with the first series of El Nino rain producing storms.  And tornado warnings with the farm in the middle?  We enjoyed every single exciting moment and except for the messes, the farm held up quite well.   Our water collection barrels even had to be emptied in between to the grateful citrus and fruit trees.  They do like a long drink.
I attribute our good luck this past week to our yearly custom of a pot of black-eyed peas, certainly not ‘lowly’ in our opinion.  We usually include them the first week of the new year and even had  couple of shareholders ask where they were.  Here are some of the historical references I find interesting:
Another way following in the southern tradition.  Your thyme from last week, onions, carrots, greens (including this week’s arugula) and bok choi can be included in either method.
So enjoy your items in good health and happy New Year.  And always, happy cooking.
