January 4, 2016 Thyme and Truth

Dear Friends,
While remembering the peaks and valleys of this last year, I realized we are embarking on our 28th year of growing food for our fellow San Diegans!  Truly, what a remarkable journey it has been.  Taking a sandy scrappy piece of land and transforming it into a rich, fertile nutrient producing farm has pretty much been my life’s work.  And it’s only been possible with the trust and support from our loyal shareholders.  We thank you and like to think we’ve served you well.
San Diego is a mobile town…people move or needs change and we need new and more shareholders.  We’re asking all of you for your referrals and to consider adding another share to be given to a local military family if you are able (Gift deliveries and military families).     It helps those in need and helps shore up the farm.  We had many new challenges to our operation last year, many are still there with increasing costs, the drought and water cutbacks, new pests and intense competition from big company ‘out-of-town’.  Hey all, it’s just us few loyal people here at Seabreeze that keep us growing.  Let’s keep the last farm in Carmel Valley going..together!
Well, with the new year, I can’t offer you more time, but this week you’ll be receiving one of my favorite herbs, thyme.  It’s amazing what a little plant like this can add in flavor to your dishes.  Here are a few ideas:
  • Add thyme to your favorite pasta sauce recipe.
  • Fresh thyme adds a wonderful fragrance to omelets and scrambled eggs.
  • Hearty beans such as kidney beans, pinto beans and black beans taste exceptionally good when seasoned with thyme.
  • When poaching fish, place some sprigs of thyme on top of the fish and in the poaching liquid.
  • Season soups and stocks by adding fresh thyme.
  • Here is a link to a note and photos from one of our favorite shareholders.  Thought you’d enjoy her story:  Kapreeza
So enjoy your items in good health and happy cooking.
