Dear Friends,

     It’s a ‘green’ week.  Our lovingly tended winter crops are perfect now with the most welcomed rains.  One of them this week is the little bunch of greens with sort of a heart shaped leaf called Claytonia or Miner’s Lettuce.  When the miners, during the California gold rush wintered over in the mountains, they had precious little fresh produce.  With the beginnings of spring, this charming plant would pop up near springs or streams and be a most welcomed nutrient therefore the name ‘Miner’s Lettuce’.  Miner’s lettuce is high in vitamin C, beta carotene and protein. It has a delicate lime flavor and doesn’t need to be cooked or smothered in a heavy sauce.

    Our chickens are producing again, so take advantage and order from our Seabreeze Green Store.
