“How do we feed the nine billion?” Fiennes said – “Through functioning ecosystems.”
Dear Friends,
My passion for good food goes back to childhood – helping and watching my mother, my grandmother and my aunts procure, prepare and serve good wholesome food. A lot of it came from other people in the area – the milk, vegetables, fruits and eggs. And we knew these people. They were friends and neighbors. Good memories and a cornerstone of the chutzpah to have a farm. There’s nothing more that I’d like to see than more and more neighborhood farms, committed to financially and philosophically by the patronage for which they provide.
There is a lot of scary news right now about the corona virus and all of it’s implications. I just can’t stress enough the importance of local food and local security. Especially with this situation where vigilance, good fresh food and time outdoors can improve both your mental stamina and your health. Support your closest local farm. You want them to sustain themselves and flourish. Donate funds for always needed farm projects, volunteer, promote them. Farmers have a wealth of knowledge and experience behind them. All qualities and attributes necessary especially in a crisis situation.
How do you feed the peoples of the world and protect the environment too? One neighborhood food at a time.
There’s a saying about farmers. They’re only as good as the land they walk.
Enjoy your fresh flowers, fruits and veggies for the week.
If you would like to help support the farm and our work, please consider signing up for our Hungry Heroes program that donates to appreciative San Diego military families or through Produce for Patriots, the non-profit founded by one of our clients, Rob M. You’ll receive a personal Thank You note from the family that receives. It’s a good thing all ’round.
Here’s to good food, friends, families and helping others. Call or email me if you have any questions or need cooking tips. May our food this week nourish, comfort and sustain you.
Stephenie
