I like simple food, seasoned with just salt, pepper, oil and vinegar. Complicated food and complicated lives are never good.

Dear Friends,
This is going to be a little bit of a commercial as several of you from last week asked about sesame oils and which oil is best to use for a stir-fry. Although the stir fry technique is good any time, I think it’s especially good during the summer when we don’t want the kitchen heated up and we want it fast. Another thing is that our highest rate charge from San Diego Gas and Electric Co is from 4 to 9 pm (the period of time when most families get back together and working people come home) and that’s when most of the food preparation is done so we want to make it quick!
These two oils, Omega Sesame and Omega Coconut Oil have been two staples in my kitchen for 30 years and are of the best quality, flavor and versatility that I have trialed..and that’s many of them. The Sesame is mild yet flavorful, delicious over salads, vegetables or rice/noodle dishes just as it is. It’s excellent as well for medium heat cooking (like with our summer green beans). Drizzled over greens, cooked or fresh, like kale, Swiss chard, tat-soi, mizuna, arugula and more, it adds a nice touch without being heavy. The heart healthy Coconut Oil is supreme for hotter dishes ranging from shirred eggs to zucchini croquettes. Here’s a recipe for zucchini fritters that is easy and although it calls for olive oil, try the coconut oil instead.
Or try simple slice sweet turnips quickly ‘fried’. Also great for twice fried French fries..hum. Who says eating well can’t at least taste decadent?
We have just a few bottles of both kinds available on the Green Store.
I hope you add them to your delivery so we can stock up on more. I for one, definitely wouldn’t want to run out! Let me know what you think.
We know many of our subscribers are enthusiastic about getting freshly harvested food from Seabreeze Family Farm. It would be helpful if you could take a photo of a plate you prepared with your farm share and post it on our Facebook page and on Next Door so your friends and neighbors could also benefit from your neighborhood’s locally grown food.
We look forward to seeing how you transform your Seabreeze ingredients.
If you would like to help support the farm and our work,
please consider signing up for our Hungry Heroes program that donates to appreciative San Diego military families or through Produce for Patriots, the non-profit founded by one of our clients, Rob M.
You’ll receive a personal Thank You note from the family that receives.
It’s a good thing all ’round.
Here’s to good food, friends, families and helping others.
Call or email me if you have any questions or need cooking tips.
May our food this week nourish, comfort and sustain you.
