Dear Friends,
Have you noticed San Diego hillsides and canyons have changed in just the last couple of weeks? The last, and only, rain we have had was enough for the life forces in the seeds of grasses and mustard to sprout and grow with incredible speed to complete their life cycle once again. Do take the time to appreciate the gorgeous natural verdant greens around us. Who knows when we’ll get rain again this season.
And of course for those of us coaxing crops from the ground, there is the general category of the horrible word ”weeds”, and that’s one of the terrible ironies of farming. We clear the land, enrich it, water it and then expect that only the seeds we planted will grow. Ha! This year we have weeds even I haven’t seen. So a heart felt ‘Thank You’ to our little groups of volunteers on Saturday mornings, 9 -11 am, that join us in our battle to wrestle yummy nutritious foods from our gorgeous soil.
We have a good supply of our local honey on hand. Order yours from the GreenStore to add to your deliveries for fresh, wholesome REAL honey.
Please feel free to call or email me if you have questions or need cooking tips.
May our food this week nourish, comfort and sustain you.
