Dear Friends,
Summer days are still with us, albeit we’ve having a fairly mild one with temperature. Thank heavens. The plants and crops are responding to the shorter days, especially late season fruit with final output and this week adds to what you already might have in your kitchen. It’s a great time to compile a bowl of mixed cut fruits, including chopped dates, nuts, dried berries…anything else you might have. The thing to keep in mind and juggle, is getting everything ripe and ready at one time. You have to keep an eye on them, like the plums or avocado, and check to see if they are softening up.
The dressing part is fun. As a base, you might use yogurt, cream, mayo..lots of choices and depends on what you have on hand and then start adding. Could be vanilla, a little cinnamon, honey, stevia, a little home-made jam, nuts, dried fruits, granola and a squeeze of lemon. They all seem to come out delicious so be creative and savor.
Happy Birthday to my mother, Betty Caughlin, celebrating her 92nd today! Still gorgeous.
We know many of our subscribers are enthusiastic about getting freshly harvested food from Seabreeze Family Farm. It would be helpful if you could take a photo of a plate you prepared with your farm share and post it on our Facebook page and on Next Door so your friends and neighbors could also benefit from your neighborhood’s locally grown food.
We look forward to seeing how you transform your Seabreeze ingredients.
