January 29, 2018 Predators and Prey
“The tiger’s world, by contrast, is not only amoral but peculiarly consequence-free, and this-the atavistic certainty that there is nothing more lethal than itself-is the apex predator’s greatest weakness” John Vaillant, The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival |

Dear Friends,
The quote is strange. I know. Trying to maintain a little farm in the middle of a city is strange too. We’re throw backs to an era and human effort that for the most part no longer exists in So Cal. People have said upon their first visit here, ‘oh, it’s like going back in time’. We deal with things most people never encounter, as they do with theirs.
So last Tuesday I let the chickens out to roam around..take dirt baths, scratch, peck..chicken things you know. There was one, a yellow one, that particularly liked working with me when I pulled weeds. The roots would brings up soft soil with lots of yummy bugs in it and we’d work side by side. She had a quirk snack the others didn’t. She ‘talked’ when she was happy. Low, musical sounds that made working most pleasant.
Please feel free to call or email me if you have questions or need cooking tips.
May our food this week nourish, comfort and sustain you.
