“Green, which is Nature’s colour, is restful, soothing, cheerful, and health-giving.” – Paul Brunton
Dear Friends,
Summer is definitely upon us and here at the Farm we feel every degree when the temperature goes up… as does the water bill from the City. And there’s another rate increase around the corner for all of us. No wonder most of the produce in the stores comes from foreign countries!
One of your fabulously nutritious and delicious items this week is your tat-soi. Now I’ve been growing this variety for 30 years so it’s definitely one of our tried and trues but perhaps is new to you. It’s a member of the anti-carcinogenic broccoli family, grown in our rich, fertile soil and if that isn’t enough, then perhaps it’s versatility and flavor will win you over. It’s wonderful either raw (hot salad dressings pair well) or lightly cooked, stir-fried, or added last to soups or stews. Here are some recipes to get you going:
We had another fantastic Seabreeze Family Farm Meetup here last Saturday that were incredible help in the preliminary harvest of your items for the week. Of the many memorable remarks (and it was from a member recipient) was “I had no idea you actually did the work. I always thought you had ‘field hands’ that did it all!” If you’d like to join us on a Saturday morning, we’d love to have you. It’s a chance to meet terribly nice people and experience part of the whole process it takes to grow food. We’d love to have you.
Do so hope your nectarines arrive in good and almost ready to eat condition. It’s been one heck of a situation protecting them while waiting for just the right time to harvest as the June beetles are descending and greedily clumping on the ripest ones. They’re worth it though..juicy, sweet and refreshing.
We know many of our subscribers are enthusiastic about getting freshly harvested food from Seabreeze Family Farm. It would be helpful if you could take a photo of a plate you prepared with your farm share and post it on our Facebook page and on Next Door so your friends and neighbors could also benefit from your neighborhood’s locally grown food.
We look forward to seeing how you transform your Seabreeze ingredients.
If you would like to help support the farm and our work,

Here’s to good food, friends, families and helping others.
