Dear Friends,
Thought you all might enjoy this video of Seabreeze on a cool June day just a few years ago. Our mission is the same now as it has been since it’s inception: Grow good food- enough to share, care for our animals, and sustain the myriad of life forms in our farm environment.
So what to prepare to eat in a heat wave? Well, of course there’s always a yummy salad with an infinite choice of ingredients. Here is one of our favorite dressings for the summer:
Avocado Yogurt Dressing
1 ripe avocado
1 cup yogurt pinch of salt
1 T lemon (or citrus of your choice) juice
Garlic (I highly recommend trying the garlic powder 1.5 oz from Machado Farms…it looks pricey but the quality is outstanding and it’s a years worth!
Blend all ingredients and chill.
Fried Green Tomatoes
Really, this is so easy and so good. Cooking time is brief so it doesn’t heat up the kitchen.
Green tomatoes
Seasoned breadcrumbs or whole wheat flour
Salt and pepper
A beaten egg or two and a little milk
Coconut oil
Slice tomatoes, dip in egg/milk mixture, dip in crumbs/flour and fry over medium high heat a couple of minutes each side until browned. Serve warm.
This week the 10% off specials in the Green Store are Machado Garlic Powder, green tomatoes and duck eggs (limited supply).
Call or email me if you need cooking tips. Happy to oblige.
