May 4, 2015 Making Bricks without Straw

No occupations is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth.
-Thomas Jefferson
Dear Friends,
By now, we all know we’re in a water situation and we need to keep you members informed of how it’s effecting Seabreeze.  Although we’ve always been water-wise, the mandated 25% cut back on our usage is like being told to ‘make bricks without straw’, if you get the can you grow food without water?  However, we are cutting back both on water consumption and areas to be planted.  We’ve had a lovely display of flowers this spring and through years of multiplying perennials and coaching the annuals to re-seed, we’re confident that even with less water, they’ll re-appear with the first rains of next year.  Until then, we’re doing extra mulching with straw and hoping the forecasters are correct for this week with a little ‘rain’.
Speaking of flowers, this coming Sunday is Mother’s Day and flowers are traditional.  We encourage you not to purchase flowers flown in from South America and to buy them from Seabreeze.  They’re all cut fresh and will still be lovely for Sunday if you order them for this week’s delivery.  Mother’s Day Flower Bouquet

May you enjoy and utilize all your items for this week.  If you need suggestions for use or recipes on any of your items, feel free to email me and I’ll help.
