Military Family: Courage, Strength, Sacrifice
Dear Friends,
I’ve been thinking of telling you all about a subject that frankly shouldn’t be, for a while now.  As you may know, we’ve been working with an organization that assists military families in San Diego and when a shareholder goes on vacation or needs to skip their CSA delivery unexpectedly, we’ve have been going through them for distribution.
However, the last few months, I’ve been receiving calls and emails directly from military wives asking if we have a farm food program.  They are either married to soldiers or are themselves and have young children.  Each has expressed the difficulties of making ends meet and wanting their children to have organic food.  Now there are food banks in town that have offerings and do feed people.  But as we know, there is ‘food’ and there is real food.  I do not consider old limp chemically produced ‘vegetables’ food nor the several day old commercial ‘white’ bread or canned or boxed ‘big ag’ items.
We are of course, doing what we can to help.  And I’m asking all of you to pitch in too.  These are young families serving our country and as we know, good wholesome food is beyond most peoples means.  We don’t have a choice when it comes to rent, gas, utilities and all the rest, but the food budget is the one that people think as a place  where they can save money.  Cheap food has unintended consequences in terms of health and well-being.
We have 2 shareholders that have sponsored 2 of these families according to their means on a regular basis.  Many more of you have donated your deliveries when you need to skip and it’s always appreciated.   If it is at all possible, would you sponsor a family, according to your means as well?  It could be any size of our offerings, weekly, every other week or even just monthly.  It will go directly to a good cause.
So call or email me and let’s rally for our service people.  We can do this!
Hope you’re enjoying and benefiting from your deliveries.  A lot of old fashioned hard work and planning makes it possible.  And grown with love and care..of course.
Call or email me if you need cooking tips.  Happy to oblige.
