November 14, 2016 Heads Up For Week of 21st

Dear Friends,
     Next week (the week of the 21ist), will be Thanksgiving so our delivery schedule has to change.  Wednesday deliveries will stay the same however Thursday’s will be on Tuesday.  I know this is disruptive to your schedules.  We’ll be back in line on the following week.
     Here are some tips for this week’s items:
                             Broccoli and Shallots
     Shallots are a little bit of a pain to peel and slice but so worth it.
     Heat a little clarified butter or coconut oil in a sauce pan on medium low.  Add sliced shallots and let caramelize, about 15 to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, cut broccoli into little heads.  Save the stalk forshredding to use for salads or soup base.  Steam for about 4 minutes. Set aside covered, and save the liquid for a vegetable stock. When shallots are caramelized, add broccoli and a little salt/pepper if you’d like, heat through and serve.  Delicious and nutritious.
    As our evenings are here earlier and things are cooling down, I like to have a soup as part of dinner.  One of my favorites is a carrot bisque.  It’s so easy to make and I like a dollop of creme fraiche on top – especially if it’s been an outdoor working day.  It’s quite simple really and I have my own way of doing it but since we’re always promoting family interaction over food, thought you might enjoy this mother’s writing and photos.
