October 1, 2018 The girls are hanging up their aprons!

Industrial agriculture, because it depends on standardization, has bombarded us with the message that all pork is pork, all chicken is chicken, eggs eggs, even though we all know that can’t really be true.
Joel Salatin
     Dear Friends,
I’m very sorry to tell you that we will no longer be able to offer our chicken eggs for sale.  We received an unscheduled visit from the ‘egg’ authorities and in order to be able to continue, we would have to pay specific yearly taxes, find the time for the required paperwork and be available for unannounced visits.  I know when there’s been a new book or expose on confined animal production because I receive numerous phone calls or emails from people demanding a description of our facilities and I patiently explain how our small flock of girls live, what they eat and a description of their home.  I also nicely tell them our chickens live better than a lot of people on this planet.  For people that work here and visitors, they see for themselves how happy they are. They are our pets – part of our family.   That being said, the surprise visit was not about them, rather compliance to the state for remittance.
And along those same lines, is why we have had a name change to Seabreeze Family Farm (absolutely nothing has changed in our 30 years of feeding people and nurturing our soil) and no longer call ourselves a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), although we were among the first in the U.S.
So the ole girls are hanging up their aprons and want to thank their supporters for their good life til the end of their happy days.
If you would like to help support the farm and our work, please consider signing up for our Hungry Heroes program (click here for more information) that donates to appreciative San Diego military families or through  Produce for Patriots (click here for more information), the non-profit founded by one of our clients, Rob M.   And you’ll receive a personal Thank You note from the family that receives.  It’s a good thing all round.
Oh, and Donna will take care of crediting your account for any eggs you were charged for and didn’t receive.
Here’s to good food, friends, families and helping others.
Call or email me if you have questions or need cooking tips.
May our food this week nourish, comfort and sustain you.
