October 26, 2015 Searching the Sky

Gardening is an exercise in optimism.  Sometimes, it is the triumph of hope over experience.

Dear Friends,
Can you feel Fall yet?  People say we don’t have seasons here but we do.  We all have a week left before ‘time’ changes again and we humans (and our pets) become dazed and confused until we slowly adjust.  The crops have it better then we do as they gradually adjust to being a little cooler at night and less sunlight during the day.  We love working with plants.  They all have personalities, have unique requirements and need protection from predators.  They have amazing ways of survival, some are good for growers and some not.  For example, if it’s too hot for too many days, they’ll stop their normal growth and send up seed making flowers to ensure the continuance of the species.  It’s our job to know when to plant, when to give nourishment and water and when to harvest when they’re at the best for our consumption.
Meanwhile, we’re looking for rain to give everything a good washing down and soaking.
This week everyone gets a little sprig of rosemary.  It’s one of those herbs that smells good but what in the world do you do with it?  I’d also wager that you might still have a winter squash in your kitchen.  If so, this is a yummy recipe to try and a crowd pleaser.
Members, we’ve updated our CSA Member Agreement, so please be sure to review our new terms.
