Coffee connects us in so many ways – to each other, to our senses, and to the earth that supports the coffee trees.

Dear Friends,
We’ve a new shipment of our wonderful roasted organic, trade fair, shade grown coffee that’s delicious and affordable. Running out of coffee is an awful thing in the morning. Stock up on our supply through the Green Store to make sure you don’t. It’s our favorite breakfast blend.
Kohlrabi? It’s the outer space bulb thing in your items this week. A member of the broccoli family (anti-carcinogenic properties), these are freshly harvested and delicious. The leaves can be used in a broth or stew but the beauty is in the bulb. Do try. It is good fresh to eat like an apple, in salads, soups, stir-fry or in a slaw. Please let us know if you like it.
A lot of ‘greens’ in your items? Remember you can always throw things in a pot, simmer a few minutes and then use the nutrient packed broth as an excelsior, base for soups, or base for cooking rice (green rice?) or pastas.
Here’s what I do sometimes for the baby celery: wash, chop, and saute in a pat of butter (salt and pepper) with a water or broth for just a few minutes until tender. Then put in a food processor and chop. Put back into a sauce pan with more water or broth and heat up. Add another pat of butter, cream or half and half, and serve as a soup with a sprinkling of nutmeg. Hum.
Next week we’re sending lots of fresh Italian basil as our crop is coming in..be ready for making pesto. There should be enough to freeze. You’ll be glad next winter when there is none!
Saturday we had a farm Meet-up here and had some lovely and energetic women come and help harvest. Many many “thank you’s” to the helping hands.
Don’t forget to order your coffee!
We know many of our subscribers are enthusiastic about getting freshly harvested food from Seabreeze Family Farm. It would be helpful if you could take a photo of a plate you prepared with your farm share and post it on our Facebook page and on Next Door so your friends and neighbors could also benefit from your neighborhood’s locally grown food.
We look forward to seeing how you transform your Seabreeze ingredients.
If you would like to help support the farm and our work,
please consider signing up for our Hungry Heroes program that donates to appreciative San Diego military families or through Produce for Patriots, the non-profit founded by one of our clients, Rob M.
You’ll receive a personal Thank You note from the family that receives.
It’s a good thing all ’round.
Here’s to good food, friends, families and helping others.
Call or email me if you have any questions or need cooking tips.
May our food this week nourish, comfort and sustain you.
