Glory Hallelujah - The Heat Spell is Broken - Seabreeze Family Farm San Diego

Glory Hallelujah – The Heat Spell is Broken

September 9, 2019
Volume 1,646
I am not bound for any public place, but for ground of my own where I have planted vines and orchard trees, and in the heat of the day climbed up into the healing shadow of the woods.
Wendell Berry
Dear Friends,
This Sunday was a good 10 degrees lower and with less humidity than the last couple of weeks and we who work outdoors are so grateful. The whole farm was starting to feel like a bale of dried straw. We are of course with the new water rates, cutting back as much as we can and still keeping the vegetables growing. Pretty darned challenging.
There’s good tasty fruit for this week and the cucumbers marinate quite well in either red wine or rice vinegar (use your favorite seasonings) overnight for a refreshing side dish or tossed with your salad. We’re happy to have broccoli back and it is good either warm or steamed and then chilled with a good dip or sauce. Same thing with Swiss chard. It’s actually quite good after cooking to serve at room temperature.
We’ve spinach this week in place of lettuce and it can be dressed up so many ways uncooked. Email me if you need suggestions.
Enjoy your ingredients. It’s going to be a great ‘kool’ week.
We know many of our subscribers are enthusiastic about getting freshly harvested food from Seabreeze Family Farm. It would be helpful if you could take a photo of a plate you prepared with your farm share and post it on our Facebook page and on Next Door so your friends and neighbors could also benefit from your neighborhood’s locally grown food.
We look forward to seeing how you transform your Seabreeze ingredients.
If you would like to help support the farm and our work,
please consider signing up for our Hungry Heroes program that donates to appreciative San Diego military families or through Produce for Patriots, the non-profit founded by one of our clients, Rob M.
You’ll receive a personal Thank You note from the family that receives.
It’s a good thing all ’round.
Here’s to good food, friends, families and helping others.
